Why is this milk thistle extract standardized for silybin?
One of milk thistle’s beneficial compounds is silybin, which is a core component of another milk thistle compound called silymarin. While research supports the benefits of silymarin, many of those outcomes may be due to silybin. Silybin represents up to 70 percent of silymarin, so it is a major component of the botanical, and typically more bioavailable (especially when bound to a phospholipid that enhances absorption in the intestines). Research shows that silybin helps protect liver cells from oxidative stress and damage, so they can effectively process nutrients and filter out toxins.*
Isn’t andrographis typically used for immune support? Why is it in Healthy Liver?
Andrographis is often thought of as an immune supporting botanical, especially in recent years, when it has been clinically studied for its powerful immune benefits. However, in Ayurvedic and other traditional practice, andrographis was considered a primary herb for supporting detoxifying pathways in the liver. Like milk thistle, andrographis protects liver cells from oxidative stress and damage, and supports overall liver function.*
Why does it matter that your grape seed extract is tannin-free?
Tannins are a form of oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC) found in grape seeds, stems, and skin. As a result, they are found in many grape seed extracts sold as supplements. However, unlike the tannin-free OPCs in Healthy Liver, they have a high molecular weight, which makes them very difficult for the body to absorb. Healthy Liver contains French grape seed extract VX1®, which delivers only low-molecular weight OPCs for consistent bioavailability and liver-supporting benefits.*
